Anyone who has had a child attend iDiscover knows that these books are my absolute favorites for teaching kindness! “All day long everyone in the whole wide world carries around an invisible bucket. It’s purpose is to hold your good thoughts and good feelings about yourself. You feel very happy and good when your bucket is full. And you feel very sad and lonely when your bucket is empty. You need other people to fill your bucket and other people need you to fill theirs. You can fill someone else’s bucket by saying or doing kind things. When you do something nice for someone, you fill up their bucket and you fill up your own bucket too. This makes you a ‘bucket filler’! But, you dip into a bucket when you make fun of someone, when you say or do mean things, or even when you ignore someone. Those things make you a 'bucket dipper’.“ It is never too early to teach kindness, compassion and empathy. Let’s be kind to one another, today and everyday!!

Open Ended Art - “A variety of materials are provided and available for children to choose. ... However, when children are given the opportunity to explore materials, even when they aren't making something recognizable, they are learning how to use materials, and will later create more elaborate artwork.”
We love watching the creative process unfold!!

Buenos Dias and Happy New Year!! I hope everyone has enjoyed their winter break!! Before the holiday, our students packed up a backpack full of donations for me to take to a school in El Salvador! 🇸🇻 The local school here was also closed this past week for the holiday, so we spent time with the students playing soccer at the beach instead! The kids were so excited to receive their new gifts and they say Muchas Gracias to everyone back home! I hope you all enjoy your weekend and we will see you back at school on Monday!

We love it when the Firefighters come to visit! They taught us all about fire safety and showed us inside the fire truck!

The Fire Chief would like everyone to discuss the following with their families:

🚒 Are your smoke detectors working?
🚒 Have you discussed your meeting place outside in case of a fire?
🚒 All students need to start learning their home address and phone number!

Thanks again to these Regina Firefighters for stopping by! 🔥

Today we celebrated National Reading Awareness Month with “Wacky Wednesday” - a Dr. Seuss book about a boy who wakes up to notice a shoe on his wall. With every turn of the page, the scenes seem to grow wackier and wackier! The kids showed up in their most mismatched, backwards, inside-out, lopsided clothing and they were surprised to see some unusual things in the classroom too! At the end of the story, the boy’s wacky day ends after he finds 20 wacky things in his neighborhood. So the kids also went on a search around the classroom to find 20 crazy surprises before we started our day. 📚

Over the past few weeks our class has been “traveling” and exploring new places around the world! ✈️ Our first stop was Morocco! While we were there we learned about different animals, the Moroccan flag, created our own Mosaics, tried some delicious Moroccan tea, and ate couscous in our colorful tent!
~ March 2018
Our second stop was Ireland! The kids tried out some different instruments, tasted Irish Soda Bread, performed an Irish Jig and made Shamrocks! 🎻
~ March 2018
Our last stop was Thailand!! 🇹🇭 There were some pretty cool animals to learn about while we were there! A particular favorite was the Binturong (Bearcat) which has a scent similar to popcorn!
We also tried a star fruit, dragon fruit, and mango and then had a vote to see which one was the class favorite.
Another fun fact we discovered - The shape of Thailand is similar to the shape of an Elephant’s head!
One of our classmates is on vacation and was just recently in Thailand. She sent us some pictures of her trip so we could see what the “real” Thailand looks like.
We had so much fun traveling around the world this month but it was time to get back on our airplane today and fly home to Canada. 🇨🇦😉 We celebrated our return with some yummy cupcakes! I wonder where we will go next year! 😊

We used the Cook By Colours Cookbook yesterday to make cookies with our Preschool classes. One of our awesome iDiscover families created this book and it’s so cool! iDiscover Holiday Fundraiser

THANK YOU SO MUCH to every single one of our iDiscover students and their families for contributing to our Holiday Fundraiser over the past few weeks! This year, we decided to donate all funds raised to TEDDY BEARS ANONYMOUS . This charity gifts a teddy bear to every child that is admitted into the hospital. 100% of donations go towards this cause!

Also THANK YOU to Luke Lawrence for bringing Hug-A-Bear by our school today to visit the kids and to talk about what Teddy Bears Anonymous will do with our donation. We had so much fun meeting you :)

Our students raised enough money to buy 285 teddy bears! Great work kids! We are so proud of you!!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Everyone at iDiscover!
~December 2015

Picture
Over the past few weeks, our Preschool students participated in different activities at school and at home to raise funds for children in need over the holidays. Our kids were able to raise enough money to buy toys and snacks for two Kindergarten classes at Albert Community School located in North Central, Regina. iDiscover students were involved in preparing and packing up the Christmas gift bags before we delivered them today. Our students also raised enough money to make a generous donation to the Regina Food Bank! We would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all the iDiscover Preschool kids and their families for their kind donations given this year. It makes us so proud to see all of our students participating and thinking of others during this holiday season. GREAT JOB EVERYONE!!! #kidshelpingkids

Last month we travelled around the world and visited Australia, France and Africa!

While in Australia, we
learned about the Flag, Boomerangs, Didgeridoos, Australian Slang, and the many different animals that live in the Outback. Then we packed up our bags, grabbed our passports and headed to Paris, France where we saw the Eiffel Tower and enjoyed fresh croissants from a little French Bakery. After visiting the Eifflel Tower in Paris, we boarded our plane and headed over to Africa where we learned about African art, music, and all the different cool animals that live there!

We would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all the iDiscover Preschool students and their families for their kind donations to our Regina Food Bank Fundraiser held over the past few weeks. Students were encouraged to help out at home and at school in order to collect spare change from their Parents and Teachers to add to the classroom's "Food Bank Fundraiser Jar".   All of the children were excited and eager to do their school work and help out around the classroom. The kids also baked cookies at school and held a bake sale in order to raise money. Students helped their parents around the house, donated change from their personal piggy banks, participated in a fundraiser pizza night, and held their own bake sales at their parent's place of work. We are so proud of all our students for participating and thinking of others during this holiday season. Our class was able to raise $1212.16 and buy 40 turkey dinners for families in need. This year the PotashCorp is matching all holiday donations so our 40 turkey dinners will turn into 80 turkey dinners!!! Great job everyone!!!
